FAQs

Q?

How often should I have my chimney cleaned?

A.

Chimneys should be cleaned and or inspected on a yearly basis. This is the recommendation from the chimney safety institute of america www.csia.org for good reason. If you are burning "heavily" during the heating season, more than 1 cleaning may be necessary for complete safety and performance of your fireplace.

Q?

What can I expect from a chimney cleaning from smith’s?

A.

Your home safety and cleanliness is our mission. First we utilize tarps and runners as needed to protect the work area. Your chimney is then brushed usually from the top (some cases may require from the bottom) as well as the firebox and smoke chamber. Special soot vacuums are then used to remove all debris from the firebox and above the damper. During the cleaning process, your chimney is being inspected for any potential problems or safety concerns which may exist.

Q?

I have a gas fireplace or no longer use my wood burning fireplace. Should I still have it cleaned?

A.

Cleaning may not be necessary in every situation. However, inspecting the chimney may reveal unknown problems or safety concerns within the chimney or other areas that the typical homeowner may not be aware of and provide the peace of mind in knowing the chimney's condition. Gas burning fireplaces will also need regular cleanings and should not be overlooked.
